Sound Interface Device is a 'sonic project' currently concerned with creating songs
utilizing the Commodore 64 (or C64), an 8-bit computer released in 1982.
Sound Interface Device came into existence in late 1998 as the result of an addiction to the
Commodore 64, which has so far lasted for 12 years. It is a one-man project (if you ignore the help from fellow musicians sometimes
needed along the way).
Since I completely lack any kind of of musical training, my songs are mostly the result of experimentation with various C64-generated
sounds and consequently include a fair amount of randomness. I understand that this is a quite common procedure for the production of electronic music...
All songs are 'pure' C64, so to say. They received some digital postproduction on a PC, but the sound has essentially remained unaltered. The
results can be downloaded in the songs section of this website.
It is hard for me to give an adequate description of my music - but as an approximation I would say say that it has its roots
in original C64 demo and game music - the hardware is of course the same, and I spent quite a lot of time in front of my C64 (who would have guessed?)
and its music was among the first to find my approval. I consciously try to get away from the typical C64 sound, and to that end I have
injected a mutagen into it in the form of elements from all sorts of contemporary electronic music, ranging from EBM and Industrial to
progressive 'techno'. My musical listening background includes many different styles of music (not necessarily electronic). All of them might
have had a more or less profound influence on my music. I will not list any favourites bands here, because in my opinion this will only lead to
false expectations concerning my music.
Sound Interface Device is also concerned with visual stimulation (read: videos for my songs). Examples can be found
in the releases section of this website.
There is no definite agenda for the future. Let's see where this all leads to.
